Cambodia-US Trade Grows, Hun Sen Eyes More American Investment

Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen has stated that trade between Cambodia and the United States is on the rise, and he anticipates increased investment from American businesses. This remark was made on the morning of July 21, 2026, during a meeting at the Peace Palace where Hun Sen received Brian D. McFeeters, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council, and a delegation representing American companies. Hun Sen welcomed McFeeters and the American investors to Cambodia, recalling his frequent discussions on economic and investment matters with the US-ASEAN Business Council since his tenure as Prime Minister. He reiterated that trade volume between Cambodia and the US is currently growing and expressed hope that more American investors will conduct business in Cambodia. During the occasion, Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with the improving relations between Cambodia and the US, and he fully supported American investors coming to Cambodia. He emphasized that the core of Cambodia-US relations lies in economics and investment. He noted that American investors are investing in Cambodia in areas such as travel products like automobiles, as well as in healthcare, education, and the strengthening of the technology sector. Hun Sen pointed out that although Cambodia has a small population, it possesses significant purchasing power. McFeeters expressed his gratitude to Hun Sen for granting him and the business delegation an audience. He stated that the US-ASEAN Business Council has over 180 members and a strong interest in investing in the ASEAN region, particularly in Cambodia. He also mentioned that relations between Cambodia and the US are progressing well and that the private sector, represented by the Council, wishes to contribute to investment in Cambodia and to further strengthen bilateral ties. The American business delegation meeting Hun Sen included representatives from major companies such as Ford, SC Johnson, and Coca-Cola, among others. For the full year 2025, trade between Cambodia and the United States reached over 13 billion US dollars, an increase of 29.24% compared to the same period in 2024.
