During a Senate hearing, Ms. Hontiveros highlighted that the proposed body would provide clearer accountability in addressing child malnutrition, noting that 25.3% of Filipino children remain stunted. Health Undersecretary Albert Francis E. Domingo expressed the Department of Health's support for the proposal, citing the National Nutrition Council’s expanding mandate despite its limited plantilla positions. He stated that converting the council into a commission would strengthen nutrition governance, improve coordination, and help tackle persistent malnutrition and childhood stunting.
