National Dengue Fever Program Inspects and Monitors Dengue Situation in Battambang Province
The National Dengue Fever Control Program conducted an inspection and monitoring of the dengue fever situation in Takram Village, Banan District, Battambang Province. The program educated residents on health measures and assessed mosquito breeding sites to strengthen prevention efforts.
Mr. Liang Ruth, Head of the National Dengue Fever Control Program and Deputy Director of the National Center for Malaria, Parasitology, and Entomology (NCMPE), along with a working group from the Battambang Provincial Department of Health, the Battambang District Operational Health Office, Takram Health Center, and local authorities, inspected and monitored the dengue fever situation in Takram Village, Takram Commune, Banan District, Battambang Province. The inspection, conducted on July 27, 2026, involved the National Dengue Fever Program team educating 52 residents (21 women) from different households. Entomological surveys were conducted on 10 households. As a result, 30 water containers for use were found, with 5 not having Abate insecticide added, though no larvae were present. However, water-holding objects around houses were found to have larvae in approximately 50% of cases, posing a potential breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes. The National Program team inspected the quality of Abate insecticide application, finding that coverage exceeded 90% and that all water containers for use were treated according to technical principles. Among the inspected households, there were model houses that had implemented good environmental hygiene and effectively eliminated mosquito breeding sites. Concurrently, the working group advised and participated with residents in cleaning the environment around their homes, eliminating water-holding objects and mosquito breeding sites, and strengthening understanding of dengue fever prevention and control measures. In addition, the National Program team instructed all private healthcare facilities to promptly refer suspected dengue fever patients or those with high-risk symptoms to hospitals. They also advised and encouraged residents to seek examination and treatment at the nearest public health facilities when experiencing fever or suspected symptoms, to prevent progression to severe cases and reduce the risk of death. Takram Village is identified as one of the at-risk villages that requires continued strengthening of health education, case monitoring, management of mosquito breeding sources, and sustained community participation to reduce the spread of dengue fever.
