Thailand welcomed 20.81 million foreign tourists from January to August, generating over THB1 trillion in revenue. While visitor numbers saw a slight decrease compared to last year, tourism income remains robust, with China as the largest source market.
Thailand welcomed 20.81 million international visitors between January 1 and August 29, marking a 2.97% decrease from the same period last year, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul. During this period, foreign tourists generated over THB1 trillion (approximately USD 27.7 billion) in tourism revenue. China remained Thailand's largest source market, contributing 3.52 million visitors. Malaysia followed with 2.63 million, then India with 1.53 million, Russia with 1.18 million, and South Korea with 765,842 visitors. In the week of August 23–29, Thailand received 491,456 foreign visitors, an 11.67% drop from the previous week. Chinese arrivals decreased by 24.44% week-on-week, while Malaysian visitors saw a rise of 18.76%. Authorities anticipate arrivals to remain at a similar level in the following week as the summer holiday season concludes in key markets. However, Malaysia's National Day holiday is expected to provide a boost to arrivals from that country.
