Vietnam is prioritizing the establishment and enhancement of a national environmental radiation monitoring and warning network as a key initiative to support its nuclear power development plans. This network is designed to enable early detection of potential anomalies, facilitate swift and effective response to nuclear incidents, and serve as a foundation for safeguarding public safety and health. Specifically, the government aims to establish a system for continuous environmental radiation monitoring and immediate alert issuance in case of abnormalities. This effort is expected to further leverage and develop the existing radiation early warning network, which is operated with support from the European Union (EU). This will allow for rapid responses not only to fluctuations in radiation levels within Vietnam but also in surrounding regions. Furthermore, efforts are being made to improve radiation and nuclear safety management capabilities to ensure the safe operation of nuclear power plants. Essential to this is the training of specialized personnel, with experts being developed according to a roadmap extending to 2050. Vietnam views nuclear power as a significant component of its energy mix, and its safety and environmental protection are urgent priorities for achieving sustainable development goals.
