Cambodia Conducts Over 1200 Border Patrols in August, Enhancing Security and Anti-Smuggling Efforts

According to a report presented at the monthly operational review meeting of the Ministry of National Defense on September 1, 2026, the Cambodian military conducted a total of 1,275 patrols along its border areas with Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos throughout August 2026. These patrols were aimed at monitoring, inspecting, and managing the situation in the border regions, as well as preventing all types of offenses. Specifically, 589 patrols were carried out along the Cambodia-Thailand border, 503 along the Cambodia-Vietnam border, and 183 along the Cambodia-Laos border. The report highlighted that the Cambodian military strived to implement its duties in accordance with the government's political program and the "Strategic Pentagon," achieving significant results in defending territorial integrity, national security, and social order. Furthermore, the military collaborated with competent authorities in preventing, deterring, and suppressing crimes. In August, 422 serious and intermediate crimes occurred, of which 256 were suppressed, leading to the arrest of 694 suspects. Additionally, the Cambodian military continued to carry out training, political and psychological education, logistics and finance work, soldier welfare, infrastructure development, international cooperation, and participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, all proceeding according to plan and actual capabilities. The monthly meeting was held under the leadership of Lieutenant General Chay Sangyun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, with the participation of numerous high-ranking military officials.
