Vietnam Becomes Southeast Asia's Largest EV Market as Sales Surge
Vietnam's electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing rapid growth, establishing itself as the largest in Southeast Asia. A significant surge in EV registrations, particularly for passenger cars, indicates a transformation in the domestic automotive industry and rising environmental consciousness.
Private passenger vehicles account for the overwhelming majority, with 369,849 battery electric passenger cars in operation, alongside 3,396 electric trucks and 1,571 electric buses. This is the first batch of finished buses manufactured by Kim Long Motor to be transported to an international market via a dedicated roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel, marking a new development in logistics capacity and port connectivity in the central region. The magazine said the VF 2 retails at 188 million VND (7,200 USD) with the battery included, making it one of the most affordable electric cars in the Vietnamese market. The company will buy non-performing loans from credit institutions and foreign bank branches, recover and dispose of debts and collateral, restructure loans and support lenders in resolving bad debts. At a meeting with local authorities, Korean businesses expressed interest in cooperation in aviation technology applications, high-tech human resources training, technology transfer, innovation, and ICT. Do Ngoc Hung, Trade Counsellor and head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the US, said what stands out is not only the growth in trade volume but also the increasingly deep economic ties between the two countries. Experts say e-commerce has given young people a major advantage, allowing them to start small while reaching large markets. As Vietnam’s economy has grown, so has its appetite for Norwegian salmon. Fresh Norwegian salmon exports to Vietnam reached approximately 7,900 tonnes in 2025, an increase of 40% from the previous year.
