Cambodia: Tech-Platform Transport Workers' Demands, Partial Resolution After 10 Meetings

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has been diligently addressing the concerns and requests of tech-platform transport workers (ride-hailing drivers). In collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, the ministry has organized a total of 10 meetings, both within the ministry and inter-ministerially, to discuss, facilitate, and seek mutually acceptable solutions from all stakeholders. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, stated, "The Ministry of Labour always pays close attention to listening to the concerns and requests of all transport workers. These 10 meetings demonstrate the ministry's efforts and dedication in finding practical and acceptable solutions that ensure benefits for all parties involved." According to the ministry, all parties involved have agreed to accept three points of their requests. However, three other points related to competition, pricing principles, and user rights have not yet reached a joint agreement. These outstanding requests have been forwarded to the Competition Commission of Cambodia, the competent authority, for examination and further action according to established procedures. The spokesperson added that the goal is to maintain a balance between the livelihoods and income of the drivers, the business sustainability of the companies, and the interests of the users. Concurrently, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will continue to receive concerns and requests from tech-platform transport workers and will cooperate with relevant ministries, competent authorities, and all stakeholders to find appropriate solutions aimed at ensuring the benefits of all parties.
