Marcos Orders Government Agencies to Leverage AI for Improved Public Services

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to improve public services for Filipinos. The directive was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos during the ceremonial launch of the all-in-one government AI platform, eGov AI, in Manila on Monday. President Marcos's message underscored the importance of actively integrating AI technology into public service delivery. The eGov AI platform aims to consolidate various government services and leverage AI to achieve more efficient and prompt responses. This initiative is intended to accelerate the Philippines' digital transformation and enhance the convenience for its citizens. In recent years, promoting digitalization has become a key government priority in the Philippines, with the adoption of advanced technologies like AI being positioned as part of this effort. For the Philippines, a country with a large number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), simplifying online procedures and expediting information provision can directly benefit the lives of its citizens. Furthermore, in the context of complex diplomatic and security issues, such as those in the South China Sea, enhancing data analysis capabilities through AI is also expected to improve government decision-making processes. This AI adoption is also expected to contribute to the revitalization of the Philippine economy. Investment in new technologies has the potential to foster related industries and create employment opportunities, which is crucial for enhancing international competitiveness. In terms of relations with Japan, it is anticipated that cooperation in areas such as technological assistance and human resource development may advance in the future.
