Cambodia's Ruling Party Ramps Up Preparations for Commune Council Elections

On July 4, 2026, Mr. Tri Pheap, who serves as a special envoy and personal advisor to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, and heads the CPP's working group for Prasat Balang district, led a joint planning dissemination meeting in Prasat Balang district, Kampong Thom province. The meeting focused on strategies for the sixth mandate of the commune/sangkat council elections. This gathering was deemed crucial for the leaders and members of the CPP in the seven communes of Prasat Balang district, aiming to ensure the party's success in the 2027 elections. During the meeting, Mr. Tri Pheap urged the working groups and party members in the seven communes to coordinate their activities across villages. He specifically emphasized the importance of verifying eligible party members for voter registration and explaining the significance of commune/sangkat council elections to encourage full participation. To facilitate the work of commune and district party officials in engaging with citizens, Mr. Tri Pheap donated 17 Honda Wave motorcycles (2026 model). In addition to providing essential transportation, Mr. Tri Pheap also offered financial contributions for administrative tasks and various activities of the district and commune parties. A solidarity meal was organized after the meeting to foster closer relationships within the party family. Furthermore, Mr. Tri Pheap distributed gifts to the leaders and approximately 272 party members who attended the event. The total expenditure for this program, including the donation of 17 motorcycles and various gifts, amounted to 815,000,000 Riel (approximately $200,000 USD).
