AI Summary

Vietnam's University of Information and Communication Technology (UIT) anticipates entrance scores exceeding 85 out of 100 for its "hot" majors like Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Circuit Design. Despite a decrease in applicants, the average score of candidates is the highest in five years, indicating a shift towards quality over quantity.

The University of Information and Communication Technology (UIT), under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, has announced that its entrance scores for the 2024 academic year are projected to exceed 85 out of 100 for its "hot" majors, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, and Integrated Circuit Design. This score is a composite of the High School Graduation Exam results, competency assessment tests, and high school academic records. According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, President of UIT, the university received approximately 9,300 applicants this year, with about 19,000 preferences, marking the lowest number in the past five years. However, the average score of the candidates reached its highest point in five years. Dr. Khang stated, "This indicates that UIT's appeal is shifting from scale to quality." For majors such as AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, and Integrated Circuit Design, scores are expected to surpass 85. For other fields, including Multimedia, Information Technology, Information Systems, E-commerce, Computer Engineering, and Network Communication and Data Communication, entrance scores are primarily predicted to fall within the range of 78-85. UIT plans to admit over 2,300 students this year. In addition to direct admission for students who have won national or international awards, the university will only consider composite admission criteria. The formula for calculating the composite admission score is as follows: Admission Score = (Coefficient for High School Exam * THPT Score) + (Coefficient for Competency Assessment * Competency Assessment Score) + (Coefficient for High School Transcript * Transcript Score) + Bonus Points (if any) + Priority Points (if any). The coefficients are set at 47.5% for the High School Graduation Exam, 47.5% for the competency assessment, and 5% for the high school transcript. Last year, UIT's entrance scores ranged from 24 to 29.6 on a 30-point scale, with Artificial Intelligence being the highest. Source: VnExpress
