Massive Crystal Meth Seizure in Chiang Rai as Drug Runners Flee

CHIANG RAI – Local authorities in Chiang Rai Province have seized approximately 884 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine after a drug-laden pickup truck crashed and was abandoned by its driver late Wednesday night in Chiang Saen district. Responding to the incident, a joint task force comprising local police, river guards, and military units discovered a blue Isuzu pickup truck with Chiang Rai license plates lying on its side in a deep roadside ditch. A thorough search revealed 24 large black plastic bags hidden beneath a steel frame in the vehicle's cargo area. Inside these bags, investigators found numerous brightly colored woven sacks, cleverly disguised as normal tea bags, which actually contained the highly dangerous crystal meth. Authorities noted that this method of disguising narcotics as tea is a common tactic employed by drug cartels to evade detection by army drug patrols. The total weight of the seized illegal drugs was 884.25 kilograms. Police have confiscated the drugs and the damaged truck, transferring all evidence to a secure local police station for further testing. Review of nearby security camera footage has reportedly shown an unidentified man fleeing rapidly from the overturned vehicle. The severe damage to the truck likely forced the driver to abandon it and escape into the night.
