Cambodian National Assembly to Convene on September 21 for New MP Validation and Four Draft Laws

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia has decided to convene the 6th plenary session of the 7th legislature on September 21, 2026, to validate the mandate of a new Member of Parliament and deliberate on four important draft laws. This decision was made during a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly held on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the National Assembly building. The meeting was presided over by Samdech Mahathipatei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia. During this important meeting, the committee approved a request to recognize H.E. Sok Phen as a Member of Parliament for the 7th legislature, representing the Takeo constituency, to replace H.E. Chan Sarun, who has passed away. This decision will be submitted to the plenary session of the National Assembly for a final decision on the validity of the mandate. Furthermore, the Standing Committee approved the inclusion of four key draft laws in the agenda for the 6th plenary session of the 7th legislature: - Draft Law on the Ratification of the Protocol to Amend the Charter of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). - Draft Law on the Ratification of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Secretariat, Personnel, and Representatives of the Members of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. - Draft Law on the Ratification of the Agreement between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Russian Federation on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters. - Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Status of Lawyers. The plenary session is scheduled to resume on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 8:00 AM to officially discuss and adopt these important agenda items.
