Over 6,700 people evacuated in Hlaymyethna Township due to dam breach

In Hlaymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, where the Ngwan River dam breached and caused flooding, 1,320 houses, 1,333 households, and 6,747 people have been evacuated to safety. No human or animal casualties have been reported, according to a statement released by the Ayeyarwady Region government. It is reported that water has entered wards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Hlaymyethna Township, as well as the villages of Nyang Pin Wai, Ma The Gone, Shwe Kanyin Pin Kyaung, Thayet Kan, and Hlay Ei Tan in the Nyang Pin Wai village group, and the villages of Hlyan Gone, Kyun Te, and Kun Chan Gone in the Sakut Chaung village group, due to the dam breach. Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw visited the flooded wards in Hlaymyethna Township to inspect the situation. He observed the evacuation of flood-affected citizens and livestock, as well as the distribution of food and relief supplies, and instructed that rescue operations be carried out promptly and in a timely manner. Following that, he visited the flood relief camp at Ichcha Saya Monastery, provided rice to the flood victims, and offered words of encouragement, stating that necessary assistance would continue to be provided.
