Two Arrested in Cambodia for Stealing from Mobile Phone Towers, Admit to Previous Crimes

Two men have been arrested in Baseth district, Kampong Speu province, Cambodia, on suspicion of attempting to steal materials from a mobile phone base station. The incident occurred around 6:10 PM on July 13, 2026, at a mobile phone service antenna located in Prey Srol village, Pou Angkrong commune, Baseth district. According to local police, the suspects were caught in the act while digging the ground within the antenna site to steal lightning protection cables and other equipment. The arrested individuals have been identified as Chin Tak, 37, and Bou Sok Kim, 33, both listed with unknown occupations. Chin Tak is from Kong Tamneung village, Kong Tamneung commune, Kong Mea district, Kampong Cham province, while Bou Sok Kim is from Svay Antor village, Svay Antor commune, Svay Antor district, Prey Veng province. Several accomplices are reported to be on the run. During interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the act of stealing property from mobile phone company base stations. They further admitted to having committed similar thefts of equipment from mobile phone antennas in various other districts on multiple occasions in the past. Currently, the arrested suspects, along with the seized evidence, have been transferred to the specialized office of the Kampong Speu Provincial Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings.
