Aung San Suu Kyi met by ICRC Myanmar Representative, Junta announces

August 3 Mizzima. The military junta announced today (August 3) morning, with photos, that Aung San Suu Kyi met with the representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Myanmar. "He met her this morning," the junta stated, referring to Mr. Arnaud de Baqque, the ICRC representative to Myanmar. In addition to photos of the two meeting, a photo of Aung San Suu Kyi cutting a birthday cake was also released. The shirt Aung San Suu Kyi is wearing in the photo of her cutting the birthday cake appears similar to the attire in photos previously released by the junta. Ko Htin Lin, the son of Aung San Suu Kyi, wrote on his social media on July 29, "My mother has been unjustly arrested by the military dictators and held hostage for over 2000 days. She has been hidden from her family and the world for over 2000 days. Throughout this period, I have strived to obtain reliable information about my mother. I have spoken with governments, diplomats, and anyone who can ascertain the truth." Since the launch of the "Proof of Life" campaign on April 21 to prove that Aung San Suu Kyi is alive, the junta has released photos of Aung San Suu Kyi twice, with this being the second time. The first instance was on April 30, nine days after the "Proof of Life" campaign began, when the civilian-led military administration controlled Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) announced with photos that the State Counsellor had been transferred from Naypyidaw Prison to a designated residence. That announcement included only one undated photo, showing Aung San Suu Kyi seated with one person in military uniform and one person in police uniform, both with their backs to the camera.
