Massive 53kg Lang Son Jackfruit Sells Out in Minutes

A colossal jackfruit weighing a staggering 53 kilograms has been harvested in Than Muoi Village, Chi Lang Commune, Lang Son Province, northern Vietnam, causing a sensation at the local market where it sold out within minutes. The monstrous fruit was grown right outside the front door of Mr. Lang The Phuong. Its sheer size required it to be strapped onto a motorcycle for transport to the local market. The anomalous fruit immediately drew a crowd of curious onlookers, who gathered to admire it, take photos, and ask about its origins. Ms. Luu Thi Lan, a local market vendor, stepped forward and purchased the giant jackfruit for 500,000 VND. She planned to slice it and sell it to eager customers. Ms. Lan reported that upon cutting through the thick, thorny rind, the interior was flawless, revealing perfectly uniform, golden flesh completely free from insects or decay. “The sheer scale of the fruit gripped everyone’s curiosity,” Ms. Lan recalled. “Once we split it open and they saw how beautiful the golden flesh looked, the crowd swarmed. It was completely stripped clean in mere moments.” Many rushed to buy segments, driven by a deep fascination with the anomaly and the desire for a rare, memorable market experience. Mr. Lang Viet Hung, the son of the harvester, revealed that the tree had been growing in their yard for over a decade. It originated from a single seed saved from an ordinary Thai jackfruit purchased years ago by his father. “Years ago, my father went to the market, bought a Thai jackfruit to eat, and planted the seed,” Mr. Hung said. “The tree has stood there for over ten years now. We never gave it any special fertilizer or care; we just left it to nature.” In previous years, the tree consistently produced fruits weighing around 14 to 15 kilograms, occasionally reaching 20 kilograms. While other trees in the family garden had produced heavier yields of 22 to 23 kilograms, nothing had prepared them for a mutation reaching 53 kilograms. “This year, the tree bore very few fruits, leaving just one solitary giant to absorb all the nutrients and swell to this monstrous size,” Mr. Hung shared. “This is, without a doubt, the most extraordinary thing our family has ever witnessed from that garden.” The family had to bind the fruit securely with heavy ropes to prevent it from snapping off the branch due to its weight. Fortunately, it hung at eye level, making the harvest convenient. When asked why they chose not to consume it themselves, Mr. Hung admitted the fruit's scale was overwhelming. Knowing their family could not finish it before it spoiled, they decided to sell it at the market to avoid waste and make a modest profit. Ms. Ngo Thi Diem, a resident of Chi Lang Commune, observed that the tale of the giant fruit brought pure joy to the marketplace. While some felt the 500,000 VND price was too low for such an anomaly, for the quiet mountain town, a happy buyer, a satisfied seller, and a community witnessing a marvel of nature together was more than enough.
