Cambodia Inspects 3 Roads, 1 Reservoir to Enhance Rural Infrastructure in Takeo Province

Minister of Rural Development Chhay Rithisen, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry and the provincial Department of Rural Development in Takeo, inspected rural infrastructure development projects in Takeo Province on July 31, 2026. The inspection focused on enhancing climate-resilient infrastructure and improving connectivity in rural areas. The minister reviewed two newly completed climate-resilient roads. The first road, connecting Poung village to Wat Krop Chhuk village in Kour Andet district, is 6.78 km long and 7 meters wide, featuring a Double Bituminous Surface Treatment (DBST) and concrete pavement. Construction was 100% completed in January 2026. This road is expected to directly benefit 1,379 households (5,998 people) and indirectly benefit 3,173 households (13,063 people). The second road, linking Samraong village to Deum Doung village in Krop Chhuk commune, Kour Andet district, spans 15.75 km with a 7-meter width, also utilizing DBST and concrete pavement. Its construction was 100% completed in September 2025. It is projected to directly benefit 2,051 households (8,850 people) and indirectly benefit 1,692 households (7,623 people). These two road projects are part of the Sustainability of Agricultural Market Access and Commercialization of Agriculture (SAAMBAT) project, funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Asian Investment Fund of the European Union. Minister Rithisen instructed the contractors to strengthen any damaged sections of the roads to ensure long-term benefits for the local population. Following the inspection of the completed roads, the delegation assessed a gravel road, 7.80 km in length, connecting Traloch village in Traloch district to Trapaing Kakaoh village in Thlea Chhumnik district, Kour Andet. This road serves 10 villages comprising 1,299 households in Traloch commune, Traloch district, and 7 villages comprising 1,602 households in Thlea Chhumnik commune, Kour Andet district. The Minister advised the provincial Department of Rural Development to include this gravel road in development partnership projects to transform it into a climate-resilient road. The objective is to improve rural-urban connectivity and stimulate economic growth in rural areas. Additionally, the minister and his delegation inspected a community reservoir in Traloch village, Traloch commune, Traloch district. The reservoir measures 52 meters in length, 32 meters in width, and 5 meters in depth. Constructed in 2024 by the provincial Department of Rural Development, it serves 98 households (465 people).
