Cambodia: Fisherman Discovers 60kg of Drugs at Sea, Hands Over to Authorities
A fisherman in Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province has handed over approximately 60kg of drugs found floating at sea to authorities. The drugs are suspected to have been discarded by a drug trafficking ring during an operation by maritime border police.
In Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province, a fisherman has handed over a significant quantity of drugs discovered at sea to the authorities. Approximately 60 kilograms of narcotics, contained in 60 packages, were found and collected by the fisherman in the waters off Koh Sdech on September 24, 2026. According to local reports, the fisherman, identified as Sy Suon, a 46-year-old Cambodian national residing in Kilou 12 village, Koh Touch commune, Kandal province, encountered three large sacks of drugs floating on the sea surface near Koh Sdech. He subsequently retrieved them and delivered them to the authorities. Specialists from the Anti-Drug Office of the Gendarmerie of Preah Sihanouk province received the narcotics at approximately 10:30 AM on the same day to document the seizure and initiate legal proceedings. Authorities suspect that these drugs were jettisoned into the sea by a group of suspects who were attempting to evade maritime border police during an operation conducted on the night of September 23 in the Koh Sdech area. Following authorization from Brigadier General Heng Bunty, Commander of the Gendarmerie of Preah Sihanouk province, and with procedural coordination from Mr. Vuth Savi, Deputy Prosecutor of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court, Lieutenant Colonel Long Kimhoar, Chief of the Anti-Drug Office, officially handed over the 60 drug packages to Colonel In Samoul, Chief of the Anti-Drug Office of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police Commissionerate, at 3:00 PM on the same day for further legal action.
