Thai Ministers Hold Urgent Talks on Bangkok Data Center Development

Chai-chonok Chitchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Ekanat Phromphan, Minister of Energy, chaired an urgent meeting concerning the establishment of data centers in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by Pol. Lt. Gen. Pholaphi Suwannachawi, Deputy Minister of Interior; Ms. Nann Boonyathida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society; Pornprom Vikitsreth, Deputy Governor of Bangkok; and Supanat Meenchainant, a Member of Parliament representing Bangkok from the People's Party. Minister Chai-chonok emphasized the government's serious and sincere commitment to this issue. He stated that thorough research and data collection have been conducted regarding licensing processes, potential capacity, and ensuring the long-term maximum benefit for the Thai people. This information is scheduled to be presented at the Data Center Board meeting tomorrow (September 4). "I can confirm that this meeting is focused solely on working for the people, without any political games. We hope to provide additional information that will further aid deliberations at tomorrow's meeting," Minister Chai-chonok stated. This initiative highlights the urgent need for data infrastructure development in Thailand, a nation rapidly advancing in digitalization. While the concentration of data centers in the capital, Bangkok, could drive economic growth, careful consideration is required regarding their locations, environmental impact, and maximizing benefits for the public.
