Vietnam Promotes Revolutionary Tradition Education for Youth at 'Red Addresses'

In Vietnam, educational initiatives are being bolstered to instill revolutionary traditions and patriotism in children through experiential learning at historical sites, known as 'red addresses.' This approach is considered a strategic endeavor, particularly for elementary-aged students, to shape their understanding of the world and foster national pride in the context of deepening international integration. At Doan Thi Diem Primary School in Hanoi, students' learning day began not with conventional lessons, but with an exploration of the Ho Chi Minh Trail Museum, delving into the nation's history and revolutionary narratives. The museum, spanning over 10,000 square meters, houses more than 15,000 original documents and artifacts, comprehensively depicting the history of the Truong Son soldiers. A memorial altar, honoring nearly 20,000 fallen Truong Son soldiers, is also a significant feature, where visitors observe solemn remembrance rituals. Senior Colonel Nguyen Hai Binh, a guide at the museum, expressed his deep impression of how children, upon interacting with the exhibits, develop a sense of pride, reverence, and profound gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations. Guides actively integrate museum content with classroom lessons to enhance students' comprehension of historical value. This educational journey aims beyond mere remembrance, seeking to foster a shift in students' learning attitudes and moral conduct, encouraging them to recognize their personal responsibility towards the nation. By directly visiting historical artifacts and listening to narratives, students gain a more intuitive understanding of history, awakening their patriotism. Ms. Bui Dang Thao Nhi, a teacher at Doan Thi Diem Primary School, highlighted the school's emphasis on activities linked to national holidays and commemorations, providing children with opportunities to learn history through experience rather than solely theoretical knowledge. Students, through museum visits, are reportedly deepening their understanding of Vietnam's history, particularly the hardships and achievements of their ancestors in nation-building and defense, thereby strengthening their love for their homeland.
