Vietnam Highway Authority Addresses "Slow Driving" Fines Controversy

Vietnam's Highway Traffic Police Department has officially responded to discussions regarding fines for slow-driving vehicles on expressways. According to the department, adhering to minimum speed limits, in addition to maximum ones, is essential for ensuring safe traffic flow on highways. The department pointed out that drivers are obligated to constantly observe traffic signs and lane markings, and maintain a speed appropriate for the lane they are using. This is because slow driving can increase the risk of rear-end collisions with following vehicles, ultimately disrupting the overall traffic flow on the expressway. In recent years, Vietnam has rapidly expanded its expressway network in line with its economic growth. However, alongside infrastructure development, the adherence to traffic rules and the enhancement of safety awareness remain significant challenges. In particular, cases where some drivers do not understand the characteristics of expressways and drive at inappropriate speeds have been a cause for concern.
