Cambodia Launches Dengue Fever Prevention Campaign with Community Education and Mosquito Control
A community education and mosquito control campaign has been launched in Samrong District, Takeo Province, Cambodia, to prevent the spread of dengue fever. Health authorities are urging active community participation through the "3 Do Nots, 3 Eliminates" measures.
In the southern Cambodian province of Takeo, a comprehensive campaign is underway to protect residents from the risks of dengue fever. On July 22, 2026, an initiative led by a team from the Doung Keo District Health Office, headed by Director Khou Huot, along with health officials from the Lumchong Health Center and local authorities, was conducted in Lumchong village, Samrong District. This 30-day campaign aims to identify, prevent, control, and eliminate dengue fever breeding sources within the community. Director Khou Huot emphasized that the health and lives of citizens and children are the utmost priority. He stated that effective and robust prevention of dengue fever necessitates the active daily participation of every citizen. Specifically, detailed explanations were provided for the "3 Do Nots, 3 Eliminates" measures. The "3 Do Nots" include: 1. Do not get bitten by mosquitoes (sleep in mosquito nets and wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants). 2. Do not allow mosquitoes to breed (clean and tightly cover water containers and jars). 3. Do not neglect fever symptoms; if an abnormal fever occurs, immediately send the patient to a health center or hospital, and refrain from self-medication or intravenous drips. The "3 Eliminates" involve: 1. Eliminate stagnant water (dispose of old tires, cans, or coconut shells that can collect water). 2. Eliminate larvae (add Abate larvicide or raise colorful fish in water jars and containers). 3. Eliminate mosquito shelters (clear bushes and maintain a clean environment around the house). During this campaign, residents in both Tamong and Kuntout villages received education on methods to prevent, control, and eliminate dengue fever transmission. Practical measures such as spraying insecticides to kill mosquitoes and adding Abate larvicide to water containers were also implemented. The initiative reached 36 households in Tamong village and 250 households in Kuntout village, with a total of 758 residents participating. This effort is part of the Cambodian government's ongoing commitment to improving public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases like dengue fever, with a particular focus on raising community awareness and promoting practical preventive actions.
