PM Hun Manet Celebrates Int'l Literacy Day, Emphasizes Quality Education

Prime Minister Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia on the morning of September 8, 2026, celebrated the 26th anniversary of International Literacy Day (September 8, 2000 - September 8, 2026) under the theme "Literacy Enhances Inclusive Quality Education." In a social media post this morning, the Prime Minister emphasized that this significant theme carries profound meaning, aiming to broaden public understanding across the country about the importance of literacy programs, which serve as the foundation for developing basic knowledge and vocational skills. Simultaneously, the Prime Minister affirmed, "Literacy is the bedrock for enhancing inclusive quality education. Literacy in the 21st-century context not only refers to the ability to read, write, and calculate but also integrates the capacity to utilize information, analytical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, global citizenship, and digital citizenship, which are essential for living in a modern world driven by advanced technology and science." Furthermore, as the world celebrates International Literacy Day, the Prime Minister noted that this theme complements the international focus by emphasizing the building of human capital with knowledge, skills, ethics, responsibility, and the ability to live and participate in developing society within a rapidly changing global context. This aligns with Cambodia's national development goals and the government's commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Goal 4, which is "to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."
