This selection aims to enhance the international profile of Cambodian cinema and foster cultural exchange. The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France, in partnership with the festival organizers, held a press conference at the Charles Floquet Residence in Paris on July 9 to present this year’s edition and showcase Cambodian cinema. Speaking at the event, Cambodian Ambassador to France H.E. Luy David expressed his pride that Cambodia had been chosen for this distinguished role. He emphasized that the recognition carries special significance just months before the Kingdom hosts the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh. The ambassador added that the honour also pays tribute to His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, one of the founding fathers of the Francophonie and a prominent figure in Cambodian cinema. The late King-Father regarded cinema as a powerful means of fostering dialogue among peoples and promoting Cambodian culture, H.E. Luy David stated. Furthermore, Ambassador Luy David outlined the history of Cambodian cinema, from its golden age in the 1960s to its current revival, driven by a new generation of filmmakers who are helping to raise Cambodia’s profile on the international stage.
