Cambodia Deploys Water Pumps to Aid Rice Crops Amid Drought in Battambang

A specialized team from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has launched an urgent pumping operation to rescue rice crops suffering from drought in Battambang province. Under the direct command of Minister Thao Cheath, the ministry's team, in collaboration with the Battambang Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, deployed four water pumps at the head of the O'Doun Po canal on Sunday, July 26, 2026. These pumps aim to save the rice crops of citizens in Kring Meah commune, Bavell district, and Ta Krum commune, Banon district, Battambang province. Currently, two water pumps are operational, and preparations are underway to install two more to expedite the pumping of water to rescue the citizens' rice crops in a timely manner. Given the significant drop in river water levels, the team is pumping water from the river into the main O'Doun Po canal. This will facilitate farmers in drawing water for continued use in rescuing their rice crops promptly, at a time when their crops are facing critical water shortages. Source: AKP Khmer
