Vietnam, Japan Launch Five Joint Semiconductor Research Projects

Vietnam and Japan have officially launched five joint research projects in the semiconductor sector as part of bilateral science and technology cooperation. This initiative concretizes the policies of the Party and State on science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation. The semiconductor industry is identified as one of the strategic technologies fundamental to national competitiveness and technological autonomy. The joint research aims to enhance Vietnam's capabilities in this crucial field. Japan is one of the world's leading countries in semiconductor manufacturing technology, and Vietnam has increasingly established itself as a manufacturing hub in recent years. Both nations are exploring broad cooperation opportunities in the semiconductor sector, including human resource development, technology transfer, and supply chain establishment. Enhanced collaboration across the entire value chain, encompassing semiconductor design, manufacturing, testing, and packaging, is particularly anticipated. The Vietnamese government has prioritized the development of the semiconductor industry as a key national strategy, actively attracting foreign investment and investing in research and development. These joint research efforts with Japan are expected to serve as a stepping stone for Vietnam to play a more significant role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
