Quezon Road Mishaps: 2 Motorcyclists Dead, 2 Injured

Two motorcycle riders died while two others were injured in separate road accidents in Quezon province on Sunday, police said. In Atimonan town, a 42-year-old woman, identified only as “Leny,” died after the motorcycle she was riding collided with another motorcycle along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tagbakin at around 6:45 p.m., according to the Quezon Police Provincial Office. Police said the second motorcycle, driven by 49- year-old “Albert,” crashed into a third motorcycle operated by 34-year-old rider identified only as “Vincent,” who was reportedly making a left turn with his turn signal activated. The impact threw all three riders onto the road, leaving them injured. They were rushed to a hospital in the town proper, where Leny was declared dead on arrival. Investigators said none of the riders was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident, in violation of Republic Act No. 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, which requires all riders and passengers of motorcycles to wear standard protective helmets. Police also found that Albert was driving without a valid driver’s license, while Vincent’s motorcycle had no license plate. Authorities are conducting further investigation into the incident. In a separate accident in General Luna town, a 32-year-old motorcyclist identified as “John” died after crashing his motorcycle in Barangay San Vicente early Sunday. Police said the victim was traveling at high speeds when a dog suddenly crossed the road, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle. Responders rushed him to a hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment. The police report did not indicate whether John was wearing a crash helmet at the time of the accident./coa
