Palace: Marcos Security Remains at Maximum Level Post-DOJ Blast

The Philippine Presidential Palace has affirmed that the security of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains at “maximum level” even after an explosion occurred near the Department of Justice (DOJ). Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, speaking to reporters ahead of the President's fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), described the incident as “alarming.” “I will leave that operation to his security and the police, but I cannot presume what their plans are. But of course, whatever is happening here, it is alarming,” Castro stated. When asked if there would be any adjustments to the President's security, she reiterated, “Whether there is an explosion or not, the President should be protected at the maximum level. We know that.” Castro mentioned that she had not spoken with the President directly about the incident but stressed that the police forces should be more vigilant and ensure enhanced security. The explosion took place near the DOJ entrance on Padre Faura Street in Manila at approximately 12:17 a.m. on Monday. The agency reported that the incident was allegedly caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) and that no casualties were reported.
