Cambodia and Laos Discuss Strengthening Educational Cooperation
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hang Chuon Naron, met with Lao Ambassador to Cambodia, Sonexay Vannaxay, agreeing to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education. Both nations aim to sign MoUs on scholarships, cultural exchange, and sports development.
In Phnom Penh, on the afternoon of July 7, 2026, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, held a courtesy meeting and working discussion with H.E. Mr. Sonexay Vannaxay, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his colleagues. The meeting was attended by Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, leaders of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and relevant officials under its purview. During the occasion, the Lao Ambassador to Cambodia expressed his pleasure in carrying out his duties in Cambodia and highly valued Cambodia's progress in all sectors, especially the advancement of educational reforms under the wise leadership of H.E. Dr. Deputy Prime Minister and the Royal Government of Cambodia's strategy for developing skilled human resources with digital competency. Concurrently, the Lao Ambassador to Cambodia expressed his profound gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for its attention to Lao students studying in Phnom Penh, both in providing scholarships and facilitating various living arrangements. Based on the existing strong friendship, cultural, and traditional ties, Laos is also heading in a similar direction to enhance the quality of education to build human capital with the potential to meet national, regional, and international labor market demands. Furthermore, H.E. Dr. Deputy Prime Minister expressed his firm commitment to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation in education, youth, and sports to be even deeper, with the examination and preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand scholarship quotas, youth cultural exchange programs, and sports development. In this regard, H.E. Dr. Deputy Prime Minister is confident that jointly nurturing and supporting the next generation of youth will become a strong foundation for continuing to preserve the traditional friendship and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and Laos, making it stronger and more sustainable for eternity.
