Cambodian Senate Committee Reviews Law Enforcement and Public Service Delivery in Battambang Province
A delegation from Cambodia's Senate Committee on Legislation and Justice visited Battambang Province to discuss the current state of law enforcement and public service delivery with the provincial administration. The committee also explained its functions and the role of the Senate.
A delegation from the Senate's Committee on Legislation and Justice (Committee No. 6), led by its Chairperson Dr. Chan Sotheavy, met with the Battambang Provincial Administration, led by Acting Governor Thour Phir, on the afternoon of July 15, 2026, at the Provincial Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to gain a deeper understanding of the implementation of laws and legal instruments by the provincial authorities and relevant technical ministries, in accordance with their respective mandates, concerning the provision of various public services to citizens under their jurisdiction and the responsibilities of each competent official. During the occasion, Dr. Chan Sotheavy briefed the attendees on the history, structure, roles, and responsibilities of the Senate, focusing on the implementation of three core functions: 1. Legislative function, 2. Monitoring function of law enforcement, and 3. Representation function. She also mentioned two other supporting functions: international cooperation and public relations, and institutional development. Furthermore, she highlighted two additional key priorities of the Senate's fifth legislature: 1. Promoting parliamentary diplomacy, and 2. Fostering closer interaction with the electorate, especially the commune/sangkat councils, who are the true representatives of the people at the local level.
