Mr. Mean Eng, Deputy Governor, led a joint task force from the province and the Bavet City Administration to inspect the installation of business signage that did not comply with technical standards, legal permits, and the illegal posting of promotional signs in Bavet city on July 6, 2026. The inspection of signage also included the participation of the provincial Information Department Director, the Deputy Governor of Bavet City, officials from the Bavet City Hall, and relevant authorities. During this inspection campaign, the joint task force discovered a large number of signs with foreign characters written in a manner that violated the law, with foreign characters being larger than Khmer characters or completely absent. Notably, some locations were secretly displaying signs embedded with illegal online gambling websites, which is a violation of the Royal Government's orders. Mr. Mean Eng strongly emphasized and warned about the legal aspects of installing business signage. He clarified that all signage must comply with the law, with Khmer characters placed above and larger than foreign characters, and the Khmer spelling must be correct according to the Khmer dictionary. He added that the provincial administration absolutely does not permit any form of illegal online gambling promotion that affects security and social order. In this operation, the joint provincial and city task force issued strict instructions to all casino owners and company representatives in the area as follows: 1. Immediately remove all signage that embeds illegal online websites. 2. Readjust all signage that does not have Khmer script or where foreign script is larger than Khmer script. 3. A deadline of one week from the date of notification is given for all location owners to voluntarily remove and modify their signage. The Svay Rieng Provincial Administration warned in advance that if, after this one-week period, any casino owner or company stubbornly refuses to comply with the instructions, the joint task force will forcibly implement administrative measures to remove the signage, and will not be responsible for any property damage. The location owners will be held legally responsible. Three days after the deadline was set, by July 9, 2026, some companies have begun to gradually remove foreign language signs.
