Nearly 30,000 Students Register for High School Diploma Exam in Phnom Penh, Up from Previous Year

The number of students registering for the 2025-2026 academic year's high school diploma examination (Bac II) in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, has reached approximately 30,000, marking an increase of over 1,500 students compared to the previous year. Mr. Hem Sinoeun, Director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, stated on the afternoon of August 4th that a total of 29,631 candidates have registered for the examination in Phnom Penh. These candidates will be accommodated across 36 examination centers and 1,193 classrooms. The breakdown includes 13 centers for science streams and 23 centers for social science streams. In comparison, the previous year saw 28,165 candidates registered, utilizing 35 centers and 1,135 classrooms. The science stream had 14 centers (418 classrooms), and the social science stream had 21 centers (717 classrooms). Last year's examination results showed a pass rate of 78.55%, with 21,386 out of 27,225 candidates passing. Among them, 1,023 received grade A, 2,322 received B, 4,858 received C, 6,904 received D, and 6,279 received E. This year's national high school diploma examination is scheduled for August 10th and 11th, with a total of 151,238 candidates registered nationwide. Of these, 37,445 (over 24%) are in the science stream and 113,793 (over 75%) are in the social science stream. Nationally, 244 examination centers and 6,207 classrooms have been prepared, including 68 centers (1,533 classrooms) for science and 176 centers (4,674 classrooms) for social science.
