A 63-year-old man who went foraging for wild mushrooms in the Doi Pui forest in Chiang Rai suffered severe stomach pain and was unable to descend the steep mountain. Local Thailand High Rescue Club received an urgent call about the stranded individual near Ban Khuean Kaeo in the Mae Puem National Park area. More than fifteen rescue workers, joined by local villagers, embarked on a challenging mission, trekking three to four kilometers deep into the dangerous and rugged terrain. The man, identified as Mr. Oun-la, was found in the forest and provided with basic first aid. The rescue team then began the difficult journey back down the steep and slippery mountain trail, working against time to safely transport the sick man to a hospital. Wutthichai Khuntham, head of the Chiang Rai rescue team, highlighted the mission's challenges, including the steep terrain and slippery, muddy ground due to heavy morning rain. The threat of falling rocks also posed a constant danger. Despite these hazardous conditions, the rescue operation took approximately two to three tense hours to complete successfully. Authorities believe the elderly man was physically unprepared for the rough weather and tough environment. They are using this incident as a strong warning for other nature foragers, emphasizing the importance of evaluating physical fitness and checking local weather conditions before venturing into deep woods. Mushroom foraging remains popular, but personal safety must be the top priority, and proper preparation can prevent similar emergencies.
