Vietnam's capacity to build workable platforms is becoming increasingly vital.
Amidst escalating geopolitical shifts that increasingly challenge intra-ASEAN consensus, Vietnam's capacity to build workable common platforms has become more crucial than ever, particularly as it serves as a bridge among members at different levels of development and with varying strategic relationships with major powers. Collins Chong Yew Keat, a foreign affairs, security and strategy analyst at the University of Malaya, stated that Vietnam is emerging as a key force shaping the future of ASEAN. He highlighted Vietnam's adeptness in coordinating diverse regional interests and forming actionable common platforms. Vietnam has been actively participating in various regional forums, proposing substantive ideas at the ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings, as well as urging stronger connectivity and resilience in ASEAN+3 cooperation. Its push for substantive and sustainable ASEAN-EU ties further underscores its proactive role. Vietnam's economic growth under its one-party system has been remarkable, enhancing its influence on the international stage. Despite its complex relationship with China, Vietnam's approach to maintaining a balanced diplomacy within the ASEAN framework is becoming an indispensable element for the region's stability and development.
