Vietnam National Assembly Debates Amendments to Three Finance-Banking Laws

Vietnam's National Assembly continued its first extraordinary session, convening in plenary session on August 9 to deliberate on several draft laws in the fields of finance, banking, publishing, and justice. In the morning session, discussions focused on draft amendments to the Law on the State Bank of Vietnam, the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering, and the Law on Credit Institutions. The Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam provided explanations on issues raised by National Assembly deputies. Following this, opinions were exchanged on the draft amendments to the Publishing Law, with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism expected to clarify related matters. In the afternoon, deliberations continued on the draft Law on Dissemination and Education of Law (amended). Towards the end of the discussion, the Minister of Justice delivered explanations in response to points raised by deputies. These legislative amendments are understood to be part of the economic growth strategy promoted by the Communist Party of Vietnam, aiming to maintain the soundness of the financial system and modernize the legal framework. Strengthening anti-money laundering measures and supervision of credit institutions, in particular, are crucial for aligning with international financial standards.
