BMKG: Transitioning Away from Computer Language in Planning Information Needs Time

Indonesia's House Commission V has urged the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to discontinue the use of computer language in its planning information. In response, a representative from BMKG stated that this transition would require time. BMKG is currently implementing and operating various systems and methods to analyze complex meteorological and geophysical data and present it in an understandable format for the public. Some of these systems and methods require advanced technology and specialized knowledge. Therefore, a complete shift in information dissemination to a format easily comprehensible by the general public is expected to necessitate extensive measures, including system upgrades and staff re-education. In Indonesia, transparency and public accessibility in government information dissemination have been increasingly emphasized in recent years. Especially for information directly impacting public life, such as weather forecasts, more accessible delivery methods are demanded. BMKG's response highlights the significant technical and organizational challenges involved in meeting these demands, while also indicating a willingness to comply.
