Palestinian Refugee Promoting Bali Tours Arrested
A Palestinian national (35) was arrested in Bali for promoting tourist packages, an activity deemed inconsistent with immigration regulations. The individual, who also holds refugee status, is now under further investigation, with coordination underway with UNHCR and other relevant bodies.
The Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) in Denpasar, Bali, has received custody of a foreign national (35) from Palestine, identified by the initials MFA, who was arrested for promoting tourist packages. He was initially processed at the Class III Non-TPI Klungkung Immigration Office. "That's correct, the individual was officially handed over to us by the Klungkung Immigration Office on September 9, 2026," stated Teguh Mentalyadi, Head of Rudenim Denpasar, in a written statement on Thursday night (10/9). The handling of this foreign national began with a report from residents in Jungutbatu Village, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency. Residents reported suspicions of a foreigner engaging in activities as a tourism service provider. Following up on this report, officers from the Klungkung Immigration Office conducted an on-site inspection and found evidence suggesting activities inconsistent with immigration regulations. Further examination revealed that MFA had been promoting tourist tour packages through social media. Consequently, the Klungkung Immigration Office imposed immigration administrative measures based on Article 75, Paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration. "Previously, since September 3, 2026, the individual has been placed at Rudenim Denpasar as a detainee. We are currently conducting further investigations into the handling of this case," he added. He noted that the handling of this case requires further steps because the individual is also known to have refugee status. Therefore, Rudenim Denpasar will coordinate further with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other relevant parties to determine the appropriate immigration measures. "Every report from the public regarding the activities of foreign nationals will be followed up by the Immigration ranks in Bali according to their respective authorities. Rudenim Denpasar will continue to support the handling process for foreigners handed over to us in accordance with applicable immigration regulations," said Teguh. Source: CNN Indonesia
