Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan Reappointed Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade in Vietnam

Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan has been reappointed as Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade in Vietnam. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung signed a decision on July 29, which takes effect from September 10. Born on October 12, 1975, Mr. Tan hails from Nghe An province and holds a Master's degree in Commercial Law and a Bachelor's degree in International Law. He is also the son of former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. Mr. Tan has served as Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade since September 2021 and has also been the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the ministry since February 2025. Prior to this, he held several important positions within the Ministry of Industry and Trade, including Director of the Legal Affairs Department and Director of the Competition and Consumer Protection Department. On August 1, shortly after his reappointment, Mr. Tan presented a discussion paper titled "Economic Diplomacy and International Economic Integration: Past Efforts and Future Directions" at the 33rd Diplomatic Conference in Hanoi. In his presentation, he emphasized the need for innovative thinking, a business-centric approach, and enhancing the effectiveness of international economic integration. In May, regarding public concerns about the mandatory transition to E10 gasoline from June 1, Mr. Tan stated that "the transition to E10 gasoline is not an imposition or a restriction on people's choices, but stems from the requirements of sustainable development, ensuring energy security, protecting the environment, and fulfilling commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions." At the time, Mr. Tan added that the Ministry of Industry and Trade "has not recorded any complaints or official technical conclusions indicating that E10 gasoline is harmful to vehicle engines." The Ministry of Industry and Trade is a government agency responsible for state management in industry and trade, covering sectors such as electricity, coal, oil and gas, new energy, renewable energy, chemicals, industrial explosives, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and mining and mineral processing. Additionally, the ministry oversees import-export, border trade, logistics services, foreign market development, market management, trade promotion, e-commerce, commercial services, and international economic integration, as well as competition and consumer protection. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently led by Minister Le Manh Hung. Alongside Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, the ministry has three other Deputy Ministers: Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, and Mr. Truong Thanh Hoai. Similar to Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Vietnam's political landscape features several prominent figures who are sons of former high-ranking officials. For instance, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung is the son of the late Lieutenant General Le Minh Huong, a Politburo member and Minister of Interior (Police) from 1996 to 2002. Politburo member Nguyen Thanh Nghi and alternate Central Committee member Nguyen Minh Triet are sons of former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. Truong Tan Son, son of former President Truong Tan Sang, was recently appointed Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tay Ninh province, a newly formed province from the merger of old Long An and Tay Ninh provinces. Another figure who has gained attention recently is Tran Quan, Director of the State Treasury and son of the late President Tran Dai Quang.
