Quy Nhon's Culinary Delights Await Runners After Marathon
The VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2026 in central Vietnam offers participants a chance to explore the region's rich culinary landscape. After the race, runners can indulge in a variety of traditional local dishes.
The VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2026, scheduled for September 13, is set to attract approximately 8,000 runners across 5km, 10km, and 21km categories. This event offers a prime opportunity for both professional and amateur athletes to explore the local culinary landscape with their families. Among the most popular dishes for runners in previous editions is Banh Hoi Long Heo (rice vermicelli with pork offal). This dish features fine noodles made from rice flour, served with pork organs such as heart, liver, and intestines, and enjoyed with a sweet and sour chili dipping sauce. It's a simple yet characteristic meal of the region, also a common breakfast for locals. It is sometimes served with a bowl of congee cooked with pork blood, providing runners with ample energy. Other distinctive local flavors include Bun Ram (noodle soup with crab broth) and Bun Tom (noodle soup with shrimp). Bun Ram uses a broth simmered from crabs, offering a delicate sweetness and aroma, served with fresh herbs and grilled rice paper. Bun Tom, on the other hand, is made with finely ground fresh small shrimp, combined with the broth from boiling the noodles and fresh noodles. For those who prefer more shrimp, a side of raw shrimp can be ordered. Banh Xeo Tom Nhay (crispy pancakes with "jumping" shrimp) is another highlight, named for the live small shrimp that "jump" when placed on the hot pan. The pancakes are made with a thin layer of rice flour batter, filled with bean sprouts and scallions, creating a crispy shell with perfectly cooked shrimp. Furthermore, Cha Ram Tom Dat (fried spring rolls with small shrimp and pork belly), each about a finger's length, was honored in 2023 by the Vietnam Culinary Culture Association as one of the country's 121 typical specialties. These dishes promise runners a delightful gastronomic experience after their race. Quy Nhon Beer, a brand associated with the region, is a partner for the marathon, supporting runners' rest and interaction in the post-race food area. The company views this as an opportunity to connect sports enthusiasts and showcase Quy Nhon's charm. Beyond its culinary offerings, Quy Nhon boasts beautiful coastlines and historical sites. Runners can explore attractions like Ky Co, Eo Gio, Hon Kho, Cham towers, and more, immersing themselves in the region's culture and nature. The VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2026 will commence with an opening ceremony on September 11, when the race kits will begin to be distributed. The main race day is September 13. Source: VnExpress
