Coco Mama is expanding its 'Save Our Coconuts' initiative from 100,000 to 1,000,000 coconut seedlings over the next five years. This aims to replace aging trees, boost farmer income, and improve long-term farm productivity.

MANILA, Philippines — Coco Mama is expanding its commitment to reforestation by tenfold, aiming to distribute 1,000,000 quality coconut seedlings over the next five years, up from its initial goal of 100,000. Implemented in partnership with HOPE and Vita Coco, the expanded 'Save Our Coconuts' program seeks to replace aging coconut trees, support Filipino coconut farmers, and enhance long-term farm productivity. Since its launch in 2024, Coco Mama has already donated 40,000 seedlings to farming communities. The next phase will integrate seedling distribution with farmer training, best practices in planting, and ongoing support for nurturing new trees. Bryan Lingan, AVP and general manager for Coco Mama at Century Pacific Food Inc., highlighted the urgency, stating, “Our coconut trees are aging and becoming less productive, which affects our farmers’ income. It is important that we take action.” Approximately 20% of the Philippines' coconut trees are considered senile, significantly impacting the livelihoods of farmers dependent on them. While replanting is crucial, smallholder farmers often face financial constraints that prevent them from investing in new trees that take years to mature. The "Save Our Coconuts" initiative aims to alleviate this by providing accessible, quality seedlings and essential knowledge. Nadine Dorego, marketing manager at HOPE: Business for Good, emphasized the program's broader impact: “Every coconut tree that we plant is also planting opportunity, resilience and dignity. and planting hope for a farmer, for a family and for the next generation of Filipinos.” The expanded commitment was announced on World Coconut Day in General Santos City, featuring a ceremonial planting activity with brand ambassador Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, local farmers, and representatives from partner organizations. The success of the initiative will be measured not just by the number of seedlings planted, but by their transformation into productive trees, contributing to stronger farms and a more sustainable future for the Philippine coconut industry.
