Cambodian Ruling Party Boosts Local Election Readiness with Candidate Training and Grassroots Strengthening

The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is intensifying efforts to train candidates and strengthen its grassroots base in preparation for the upcoming 6th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council elections scheduled for 2027. On September 19, 2026, H.E. Net Pheaktra, a member of the CPP's Central Committee and head of the party's working group for Kratie province, met with prospective candidates for the Commune/Sangkat Council and village branch party members in Sambo District, Kratie Province. The meeting focused on reviewing past achievements, maintaining active engagement at the local level, and setting future work directions leading up to the 2027 elections. H.E. Net Pheaktra urged party leaders and members to pay close attention to work carried out, analyze results and experiences, and identify priorities for more effective implementation. He also instructed party forces at the grassroots level to maintain close contact with citizens, listen to and understand their needs, challenges, and specific requests to contribute to problem-solving and promote practical work benefiting the locality. He emphasized that local work must be based on a spirit of responsibility, solidarity, good cooperation, and clear role fulfillment. Strengthening the local force involves not only organizing structures and membership but also serving the people and addressing their daily challenges. Furthermore, H.E. Net Pheaktra stated that the preparation of prospective candidates and the strengthening of village party branches are focused on human resource development and organizing capable and responsible local forces aligned with their roles and duties. He advised prospective candidates and village branch members to enhance their capacities, increase their understanding of local issues, and maintain close communication with the people. He added that these efforts are part of the preparations for the 6th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council elections in 2027, focusing on good organization, clear role allocation, and ensuring local work proceeds in an orderly and efficient manner. Net Pheaktra also encouraged working groups and party members at the grassroots level to continue strengthening solidarity and cooperation, enhance local outreach, and pursue work prioritizing the common interests of the people to contribute to better local development.
