The Ministry of Health has intervened and disseminated information on dengue fever to students in Koh Thom District, Kandal Province, in response to rising cases. Accompanied by Dr. Yok Sambath, Secretary of State in charge of infectious diseases, and Dr. Hok Kimcheng, Director General of Health Technical Affairs, along with officials from the Kandal Provincial Health Department and the Koh Thom Operational District Health Office, the delegation engaged in interventions and monitoring of the dengue fever situation. They provided crucial information to young students on the prevention and control of dengue fever, which is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. On July 4, Dr. Sambath convened a meeting with leaders and medical staff at Techo Sen Koh Thom Hospital to assess healthcare service delivery and the treatment of dengue fever patients. The hospital is equipped to receive both general and pediatric dengue patients. According to reports from the Provincial Health Department, Koh Thom Operational District, and Techo Sen Koh Tom Hospital, a total of 578 dengue fever patients were recorded from June 16 to July 4. Of these, six severe cases were transferred to Kantha Bopha Hospital, and no fatalities have been reported. The areas with the highest incidence of infection include Sampov Poun City, Khum Chhkeu, and Khum Prek Chrey, with scattered cases also reported in other communes within Koh Thom District. Immediate measures require the hospital to maintain adequate supplies, medicines, and medical teams to provide timely rescue and treatment for citizens. The campaign to distribute larvicide (Abate) to households and spray insecticides in communities, schools, and public areas will continue. Health education will be intensified to ensure the public fully understands how to prevent and control dengue fever. During the visit, Dr. Sambath and the health delegation, in conjunction with local authorities, participated in educational outreach to young students at Prek Thmei Primary School. They subsequently inspected the activities of teams conducting mosquito spraying campaigns in villages, communes, schools, and private residences to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
