Cambodia Reiterates Commitment to Nuclear-Weapon-Free World at UN

Cambodia has reiterated its firm commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons and the elimination of nuclear testing. Ambassador Keo Chea, Cambodia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized this stance during a high-level plenary meeting to commemorate the International Day against Nuclear Tests, held in New York on August 31, 2026. The ambassador strongly urged all nations to demonstrate political will to bring the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) into force. Furthermore, Ambassador Keo Chea welcomed nuclear-weapon states that wish to sign and ratify the protocols to the Treaty on the Southeast Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone unconditionally, and called on other nuclear-weapon states to do the same. This is positioned as part of Cambodia's foreign policy aimed at strengthening regional peace and security. Cambodia has long supported the principles of disarmament and non-proliferation, demonstrating its commitment to reducing the threat of nuclear weapons in the international community.
