Asum Clan Patriarch Poised to Win Lanao del Sur's 5th District BARMM Seat

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Arimao Asum, a former vice mayor of Lumbayanague and patriarch of the Asum political dynasty, is poised to win the 5th District seat in the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in Lanao del Sur. As of 10:14 pm on Monday, September 14, with 93.38% of the total election returns tallied, Asum had garnered 43,316 votes. This puts him in a commanding lead over his closest competitor, former Tubaran mayor and United Bangsamoro Justice Party bet Khaledyassin Papandayan, who secured 28,059 votes. Independent candidate Udtog Tago trailed with 1,229 votes. Asum is the candidate of the Serbisyong Inklusibo-Alyansang Progresibo Party, led by Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. and his son, Lanao del Sur Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid Adiong. He is also the father of incumbent Lumbayanague Mayor Jamal Asum and the husband of Vice Mayor Salamona Asum. The outcome of this election highlights the enduring influence of established political families in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which replaced the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with broader self-governance powers.
