Jakarta Considers Ragunan Zoo Ticket Price Hike After 20 Years

The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is considering a proposal to increase ticket prices for the Ragunan Wildlife Park (Taman Margasatwa Ragunan). This potential hike would be the first in 20 years. Fajar Sauri, Head of the Parks and City Forest Agency, mentioned the proposal to Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during a visit to the Flona Jakarta Exhibition on Friday. According to Sauri, a study by the University of Indonesia suggests raising the ticket price from the current Rp4,000 to Rp10,000. Governor Pramono stated that while he had not yet received the proposal directly, he would consider the possibility of a price adjustment. However, he emphasized, "If adjustments are made, they should not burden visitors." The governor also noted that Ragunan's current ticket price is "very cheap" compared to zoos in other capital cities, admitting he was among those who had maintained the low price. Previously, Commission C of the DKI Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPRD) and the management of Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR) had agreed to increase the ticket price from Rp4,000 to Rp10,000. This move is driven by the significant operational costs of the zoo, which are largely subsidized by the Regional Budget (APBD). The APBD covers 70 percent of the annual operational expenses, totaling approximately Rp160 billion, while the park's independent revenue remains stagnant at Rp30 billion. The proposed ticket price increase is expected to alleviate the subsidy burden on the DKI Jakarta APBD and facilitate Ragunan's transition into a self-sufficient Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD).
