Cambodian Red Cross Trains Youth to Strengthen Humanitarian Efforts

The Cambodian Red Cross Society's Banteay Sraich Province Branch has organized a vital skills training for 51 youth leaders and Red Cross youth at Pugam High School in Svay Chek District. This initiative, held on July 13th, aims to strengthen the capacity of young people to become active drivers of humanitarian activities and life-saving efforts. The training focused on enhancing knowledge in rescue techniques and understanding community safety systems. The program delved into not only the history and foundational principles of the Red Cross movement but also provided essential practical skills for daily life. Under the coordination of the branch's operational team, led by Ms. Muet Leaphea, the Deputy Director, the youth received thorough training in first aid techniques, including patient positioning, and rescue procedures for respiratory crises (unconsciousness, drowning, and electric shock) applicable to adults, children, and infants. Key skills emphasized included emergency response and managing cases of poisoning and bleeding, crucial for real-life scenarios. Participants also learned to utilize the "1294" early warning system for disaster prevention and preparedness. Traffic safety education, focusing on understanding the new road traffic laws, was also provided to foster responsible road usage. Ms. Muet Leaphea highlighted that this training is part of fulfilling the Cambodian Red Cross's 2021-2030 strategic goal: "One family, one first aider." She praised the volunteers' spirit and dedication to humanitarian work, urging them to apply their acquired knowledge effectively in their families, educational institutions, and communities. She emphasized that these young individuals will serve as goodwill ambassadors, sharing Red Cross knowledge to reduce risks and save lives promptly.
