To commemorate World Rural Development Day, observed on 6 July 2026, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development held its Second Monsoon Mass Tree-Planting Ceremony Monday morning in Kan Oo Village, Ka do Seik Village Tract, Pyinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Myo Zaw Thein, Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council U Kan Myint Than, Deputy Minister U Theik Soe, members of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and ministry officials and staff, who participated in the tree-planting activities. In his address, Union Minister U Myo Zaw Thein stated that the second tree-planting activity was being conducted along both sides of the access road leading into Kan Oo Village in Ka do Seik Village Tract, Pyinmana Township. He added that, to mark World Rural Development Day, the Department of Rural Development at the region/state, district, and township levels across the country would simultaneously plant more than 46,600 trees along village entrance roads and rural production roads. Following the address, the Union Minister and party and ministry staff jointly planted trees. Then, the Union Minister and party visited the Village Village Post-Primary School, where they inspected the implementation of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities being jointly carried out by the Department of Rural Development, the Department of Basic Education, and the Department of Public Health. During the inspection, the Union Minister provided the necessary guidance and instructions. The Union Minister and party subsequently inspected projects being implemented with funding from the Emerald Green Village Project Fund and the Rural Economic Development Fund. They then attended a ceremony at the monastery's Dhamma Hall in Kan Oo Village to hand over financial assistance under the Smart Village Project. During the ceremony, relevant officials presented reports on the rural development activities already carried out in Kan Oo Village, future development plans for the village, and planned regional development initiatives to be implemented throughout Pyinmana Township. Following the presentations, the Union Minister provided the necessary guidance and coordinated responses to issues raised by local residents. The Union Minister then presented 60 million kyats in financial assistance under the Smart Village Project to members of the Kan Oo Village Committee, it’s reported.
