Taal Volcano Logs 32 Seismic Events in 24 Hours, Alert Level Unchanged

Taal Volcano in Batangas province has shown increased signs of volcanic unrest after registering a rise in seismic activity over the past 24 hours as of Friday (July 31), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. Phivolcs stated that the volcano recorded 32 volcanic earthquakes during the monitoring period, a significant increase compared to the same period last week. However, no significant changes have been observed in the temperature and water level of the crater lake, nor in the emission of volcanic gases, indicating no immediate signs of a magmatic eruption. Consequently, the alert level for Taal Volcano remains at its lowest level, "Level 1 (Normal)." Phivolcs assured that continuous monitoring of the volcano is being conducted and advised the public and concerned agencies to remain vigilant for any unexpected changes in volcanic activity. Taal Volcano is a popular tourist destination known for its picturesque scenery but has a history of significant eruptions. Its January 2020 eruption blanketed wide areas with ash and forced thousands of residents to evacuate. The Philippines is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region with a high concentration of active volcanoes.
