Tight Security in Place Ahead of President Marcos' 5th State of the Nation Address

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27. Ahead of the address, tight security measures are already in place around the Batasang Pambansa Complex, Batasan Road, and Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. Marcos will deliver his SONA at the plenary hall of the House of Representatives at 4 p.m. Personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have been on site since Sunday night, ensuring a quiet and peaceful overnight period around the complex. Security personnel are implementing strict measures near the complex's gates. Over 900 PNP and BFP personnel are stationed at the intersection leading to the Batasang Pambansa Complex. MMDA personnel are deployed in front of the Sandiganbayan at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Batasan Road, with an ambulance and mobile command center set up. K9 units are also seen patrolling the complex for explosives detection. Meanwhile, at Philcoa on Commonwealth Avenue, around 300 policemen were deployed on the eastbound lane past 6 a.m. A tent, command center, and five firetrucks are also stationed in the area. Rallyists are expected to converge on Commonwealth Avenue to conduct protest actions against Marcos' SONA. The PNP has appealed for peaceful demonstrations and pledged to observe maximum tolerance. Over 20,000 police officers have been deployed for SONA 2026, with the National Capital Region Police Office on full alert. Commuters have opted to travel early to avoid potential traffic disruptions caused by the SONA.
